Nov2013_MBRC: Disaster preparedness is in the bag

Local residents have storm season in the bag with new Disaster Preparedness Packs available from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Chairperson of the Moreton Bay Region’s Local Disaster Management Group, Councillor Brian Battersby said obtaining a pack from council was a great way to kick-start preparations at home.

“The packs include a few practical items to help get your emergency kit started including a wind-up torch and battery-operated radio,” Cr Battersby said.
“It also features a water resistant bag for storing essential items you may need if a storm, flood or bushfire threatened your home.”
Cr Battersby said that most local residents know they should have a torch, battery-operated radio, spare food and water, and a hard copy and an electronic copy of important documents on USB, but they don’t always get around to organising it.
“Purchasing one of council’s Disaster Preparedness Packs is a great way to have your emergency kit items in an easy to locate ‘go bag’ that you can grab in an emergency.”
The pack includes:
Water resistant bag
Dynamo torch/radio
Fridge magnet containing emergency contact details
Get Ready Queensland emergency information flip booklet
Cookbook “A Taste of Moreton Bay: Cooking one pot wonders without electricity”
Disaster preparedness seed bookmark
MoretonAlert information sheet
A Disaster Preparedness Pack can be purchased from council libraries and customer service centres in the region for $25.
Some discounts may be available for concession card holders.
