Federal Government update
The new Abbott Government has hit the ground running and is starting to implement the policies announced during the election campaign. Already, Prime Minister Abbott has visited Indonesia to ensure we protect our borders and work alongside our international neighbours. In my portfolio of Health, we have announced a review into Medicare Locals as well as a feasibility study into the Pine Rivers Hospital which will be completed within the next 12 months.
MOvember
The month of November has recently been known as ‘MOvember’, because of the popular men’s health awareness campaign encouraging men to grow a moustache for the month. The aim of the campaign is to raise funds for men’s health research and organisations as well as raising awareness about the pressing issues men are facing. Ladies, you can also get involved by encouraging your brothers, partners and male friends to grow a mo for this great cause. Christmas card Competition
Christmas is almost upon us. I am running my Christmas card competition again this year. Students in Prep to Year Three who attend local schools received an entry form to submit their design. This year’s theme is “I love Christmas because…” and entries were handed back to teachers on 22 October. We have some fun prizes for the schools participating and the respective winners. The winners are always proud to see their masterpiece in print! Look out for our Christmas cards to see the winning entries.
Dickson Australia Day Community Awards
The Dickson Community Awards are presented each year on Australia Day. The awards recognise people who, through volunteer work or contributions, above and beyond their normal activities, have made our community a better place.
