NO STOPPING AREAS IN THE VILLAGE
From time to time residents express concerns at the difficulties exiting some side streets due to the fact that vehicles park near corners and in dangerous areas.  A number of locations have yellow kerbside line marking which has been a part of the National Road rules since 1999 and indicate that they are “No Stopping” zones.  Reports continue to be received of drivers who are either ignorant of the rules or simply taking a chance on not being detected.  Please take care around the Village and avoid the costly fines.
REGION RECEIVES MIXED HEALTHY WATERWAYS REPORT CARD
For the last 10 years the eco system health monitoring program has produced an annual eco system healthy report card for the major fresh water catchments, estuaries and Moreton Bay.  Results for the catchment, including the Pine Rivers, have showed overall improvement with the Pine catchment improving from C- in 2010 to B- in 2011. Unfortunately Moreton Bay itself declined from C to C-, no doubt due to the significant affects of the January floods.  The January floods have been a major contributor to river catchments, most of which continue to carry good flows. Full details of the Report Card can be found at www.health-e-waterways.org/reportcard
CONGRATULATIONS DAYBORO DINGOES SOCCER CLUB
I was pleased recently to attend the Trophy Day and 2011 AGM for the Dayboro Dingoes Soccer Club and hear of the successes that the Club has achieved over the last year, both on and off the field. I was also pleased to present the Moreton Bay Regional Council Player of the Year Award to Tahra Schoots. As with many of our clubs and organisations throughout the region the membership has had to dig deep to find people to fill the executive and many support positions that are required to “keep them on the field”.  Unfortunately a number of positions at the Club require filling, and although Council, in recent years has significantly increased its support of sporting and other clubs across the region, it remains the responsibility of the local community to fill the necessary positions and ensure that our young folk can continue to enjoy all the benefits that participation in sport delivers. Please give some thought to how you might help as it is a requirement of the Department of Fair Trading that the executive positions are filled.
REFURBISHED BMX FACILITY – HENRY BRADLEY PARK
I was pleased during a recent visit to Dayboro to see many young people on their BMX bikes enjoying the challenges created with the refurbishment of the bike jumps in Henry Bradley Park that had been damaged during the January floods. It is surprising how a few ‘piles of dirt’ can keep young people on their bikes entertained for hours, however it is also important for safety reasons that these jumps not be modified in any way.
CHAPLAINCY BREAKFASTS KICK ON
The recent Pine Rivers district Chaplaincy Breakfast at the Norths League Club proved yet another success raising approximately $20,000 towards the provision of chaplaincy services in the Pine Rivers area. This latest breakfast, which is one of three Council sponsored breakfasts conducted throughout the region each year, brings the total funds received in the last three years and distributed to our schools by Scripture Union to almost $200,000.
DID YOU KNOW?
Council remains on track to deliver the budgeted operating surplus of $17.9 million in 2011-2012. This surplus is a key financial achievement for Council since amalgamation.
