Mayor Allan Sutherland said they were among the dozens of young participants aged from 12 to 25 years who were taking part in council’s innovative library Mash It Up film workshops from February to May.
“These workshops, which will cover everything from voice-overs, to sound effects, animation and theatrical makeup will culminate in the Mash It Up Short Film Festival, on July 10 at Redcliffe Cultural Centre,” Cr Sutherland said.
Harry, James and Darcy plan to gain new skills and build on their film experience this year through the wide variety of workshops being offered in libraries as well as teaming up with other participants who complement their abilities.
James Harvey said:  “I am keen to learn about animation.”
Harry Thomson said: “I think the radio voice-over and circus skills workshops will be cool.”
Darcy Cox said: “I am interested in having fun and meeting new people.”
All three would like their short films to be full of fast-paced action, awesome music, animation and still photography.
Harry said filming could be time consuming.
“It can take four hours of shooting frames to end up with two minutes of useable film,” he said.
Harry said this year he intended to stick to a similar theme of action on bikes, skateboards and scooters – anything featuring wheels, but to improve their results by using a range of film techniques from panning in wide landscape shots to mid range and close up shots, and add animation to the mix.
Darcy said making films was a combination of fun and hard work, but was made easy through access to Mac computer equipment for film making and expert guidance.
He has been brainstorming a few ideas like global warming and an alternative Guinness Book of Records film trailer promoting a book filled with amazing and unusual achievements.
Cr Sutherland said cash prizes were one of many incentives for young people to register NOW for the Mash It Up short film festival and workshops.
