March24_A LIONS TALE

Lions Business Meetings – 2nd Wednesday monthly – March 12th, April 9th etc. –  7pm start.
Uniting Church Hall (opp the Dayboro butchers )
Williams Street, Dayboro.
Movies:
Next movie is “FROZEN” on March 15th
190+ attended the ‘Meatballs’ movie in February, with many newbies.  It was pleasing to see the attendance of families with babies – at least a dozen – from 6 weeks old, all very well behaved, and with great supervising parents to ensure enjoyment in this delightful social environment.  We had a lot of positive comments re the wish to support the event.
The movie for 15th March is Disney’s “Frozen”, and we expect this to be another splendid Dayboro event.
As you are aware, we are looking at a replacement projector system and we have two quotes (price – $$ouch!) and a set of grant applications are in progress.  The alternative less expensive system we are also pursuing will continue the tradition of Dayboro Movies which have been going since the 1920s.  The show must go on!

Lions Dinner Meeting – 4th Wednesday monthly next March 26th – time 6.45 for 7pm start.
Uniting Church Hall , Williams St. Dayboro .
Speaker – Councillor Bob Millar, On the day in the life of a Councillor.
A supper will be available on the night for the sum of $12. Orders taken on arrival.  BYO drinks and glasses if required.
This is an open meeting for members, guests and members of the community.  Ramp access is available in Williams Street.
Why not make a date to come along to one or both of these meetings, to see how you can help to make a caring community in Dayboro, or just enjoy a social event.  Hope to see you there.

The Dayboro Lions had a very good business meeting to start the year, rich with community support initiatives and consolidation of ongoing projects.  We had some potential new members along to this one (we still have an open door for more!), and 2014 is looking good.
The Apex protagonists have augmented the Club, and brought their enthusiasm to ensure all of their good work continues under the Lions Banner.
We will be continuing the Fire Alarm Battery Replacement Programme, which is a FREE smoke alarm inspection and replacement for the elderly and infirm.  It can be booked for 5th April 2014.
Our president Dave Quinn and Teresa are at the forefront of pursuing the idea of providing exercise equipment at site(s) within the township, and the provision of better footpaths which are notably lacking within the community districts.  This is developing significant support and interest, and no doubt will have a great positive result for the Town.  More soon!
Clean-up Australia day will have come and gone, and Dayboro would be looking a cleaner place as a result.  More important is the example set by the Scout sections, Lions and others to exemplify the notion of a litter-free countryside.
One of the many worthy events we sponsor is the Diggers’ Lunch held annually around ANZAC day.  This is for returned service personnel and their families to enjoy a get-together meal and a presentation talk.  The provisional date for this is 26th April, and all who wish to attend this should get in touch with Richard Hawkins (see separate article – Lions’ Diggers Lunch 2014).  We also give logistic support to the ANZAC Day ceremonies, and have inherited the sponsorship of the dawn breakfast from Apex.
We continue to support community requests for financial sponsorship, and will have our badge on the car representing F1 in schools team, Atomic Rush, from Pine Rivers State High School.  Dayboro’s Tyler Redfern and other students will attempt to gain the national prize again, in this competition which develops so many positive aspects of youth.
And there are many other irons in the fire…..
….More Next Month
