Mar2015_LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,
I was interested to read the article in the Grapevine about New Zealand war hero Cyril Basset, and the general lack of recognition of New Zealanders in WW1.
Two of the greatest New Zealand WW1 heroes were Archibald Baxter and Mark Briggs. They were nearly tortured to death at the French front, but received no medals all.
Though on returning Briggs later became a member of parliament and Baxter fathered NZ’s most famous poet James K Baxter.
Their story was made into a great movie however, and released in New Zealand around Anzac Day last year.  Sadly it was not released in Australia.
But you can watch it on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vug8964pH9w
Or just google YouTube Field Punishment No.1
A must watch for anyone interested in WW1 (or even those not interested!)
