Dayboro & District Rural Fire Brigade
By the time this goes to print Dayboro Day and our Community Awareness Day will be done and dusted. Thank you to those who dropped in to say hi and to those who bought raffle tickets from us at the Dayboro Day stall.
Reminder 14 June is Operation Warm Up at the showgrounds
Rural Fire Brigades from the Pine Rivers group and Dayboro Auxiliary Fire Brigade will gather at the Dayboro Showgrounds for a training exercise. During significant bushfire incidents and even large hazard reduction burns these crews need to work together on the fireground. So, the aim of this event is to develop new skills and to form and maintain a good rapport between brigades. We’re told there are some surprises for us this year. The best and funniest time for you to drop by to see us in action (or just for a giggle) is 9 -11am.
One of our members is also on the ‘Local Ambulance Committee’ and their latest meeting raised concerns about the visibility of the yellow rural number posts. You see, it’s not just the fire brigades that use these posts and it’s not ‘just a number’, it’s also a distance indicator. All emergency services rely heavily on this numbering system. Still not convinced it’s worth the few minutes it will take you to have it fixed? Fathers Day isn’t that far away… imagine this… the kids all chipped in and got you that awesome tool you have been hanging out to get. It’s too big for any of the kids cars so they arranged delivery but the courier driver couldn’t locate you. Buggar! Moreton Bay Regional Council phone 3205 0555.

Later this month we have our 4 trainees completing their assessments to become fully-fledged firefighters. We are all very confident. After all they have had the best trainers. One of these trainees is Laurel Purves and this months VIP.

I grew up in Dayboro but my family moved to Gladstone in 1997 when I was 10. I finished high school and moved to Townsville in 2004 to study Psychology. I very quickly discovered Psychology wasn’t for me. I stayed in Townsville working as a retail manager till 2011 when I returned to Dayboro to ‘fix up’ the family property. I’m now an apprentice electrician working for Energex. When I’m not at work, I like knocking around outside at home ‘fixing’ things, attempting to play my guitar, and training Muay Thai. I joined the Brigade at the end of last year because I love the community spirit in Dayboro and I wanted to get involved.

With cooler weather brings campfires and fire pits. While these smaller fires may not require a permit they do require some preparation and a responsible adult in attendance at all times. Extinguish your fire with WATER, not sand or dirt. Know your obligations and be prepared.
