June2014_New path to road safety

Learning about road safety will be part of Dayboro Community Kindergarten’s curriculum with a $16,837 Community Grant from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Division 11 councillor Bob Millar said the grant funded a 90 metre bike path, paved area and water bore for the kindergarten.

“It’s infrastructure that will become an educational asset for the kindergarten where children can learn not only how to ride bikes but stay safe on our roads,” Cr Millar said.
“The bike path and the paved area is an investment in our kids’ future, while the water bore is being used on the vegetable patch and fruit grove.”
$277,000 in funding has been delivered by Moreton Bay Regional Council to community groups across the region through the latest round of the Community Grants Program.
Dayboro Community Kindergarten director Robyn Hoban said the new infrastructures were welcome additions.
“We are planning on installing road safety signs and a pedestrian crossing on the bike path to improve road safety education,” Ms Hoban said.
“The paved area will improve access to the kindergarten’s organic vegetable patch, fruit trees and poultry sheds, which are all watered from the bore.
“It means we can now teach the children about sustainable food production without getting them dirty.”
The next round of the Community Grants Program opens on July 1 and closes at the end of August, 2014.
