Budget 2014
The Coalition is working hard to fix Labor’s debt and deficit disaster, and to build a stronger and more sustainable economy.  We are currently spending $1billion a month just on interest payments on Labor’s debt, and without action that will climb to $2.8billion a month as the debt balloons to $667billion dollars.  This debt burden on Australian families is unacceptable, and threatens our future prosperity.  We must take tough decisions now to ensure that we can all enjoy the benefits of a strong economy into the years ahead.

Seniors
The Coalition’s Budget supports senior Australians and will help build a stronger Australia.  While looking after senior Australians we’re also getting the Budget back into a strong position.  A stronger Budget and a stronger economy will ensure support for senior Australians is sustainable in the future.

Pensions will continue to increase twice a year.  The family home will continue to be exempt from the assets test.  There will be no reduction to the age pension.  The Pension Supplement will also remain in its entirety.  The Age Pension age will increase to 70 by 2035.

Concession Card holders will continue to access services provided by the Australian Government at lower costs.  Abolishing the Carbon Tax will save the average Australian household  $550 next year alone. The Energy supplement will also remain.

Local Shows
The Dayboro and Samford Shows are both being held this month.  They are fantastic family events and highlights on our community calendar.  If you require assistance with a Federal Government matter, or would like a free show bag, come down and visit my stall at either show.

The Dayboro Show will have been held on the 5th and 6th of July and the Samford Show is taking place on 12th and 13th of July.

Dry July and National Diabetes Week
Dry July challenges you to go alcohol free for the month of July to support adults living with cancer.  Not only will you feel better, but you can help raise funds to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of cancer patients.

Please consider participating in Dry July or supporting someone who is.  It offers a great opportunity to think about your drinking habits and move toward a healthier lifestyle.

You can find out more at au.dryjuly.com

National Diabetes Week will this year take place from the 13th to 19th of July.  The focus of the week will be raising awareness of type 2 diabetes.  Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, and affects 85 – 90% of all people with diabetes.
