July2014_A LIONS TALE JULY
Lions are an adventurous mob, and in winter months several members are Lions at large – seeking the warmth elsewhere. This leaves us with less activity here.
But the support must go on, and our regular commitments are fulfilled. The sponsorship of prizes for school entries to the Dayboro Show have been picked up from Apex (they did a lot of underpinning of local support didn’t they!), and help to other persons continues.
MOVIE NEWS: 19th July “The LEGO Movie”
The movie in June, Planes, had a lower number of attendees, but we met our target of meeting the substantial copyright fees and other expenses, and the screen presentation once again proved to be most pleasing.
This month, in view of the Soccer World Cup currently in the news, we will be showing the delightful RIO! on 19th July. This is an animated family movie again, and has been modelled remarkably on Rio city and the animals found in Brazil. If YOU have a suggestion of a movie you would like to see shown, then please email Dayboro.lions@gmail.com, or phone Ian on 0478 419 022, and it will be considered.
Other Lions News:
The Lions informative talks, all welcome, continue on the 4th Wednesday of the month and following the last one which was Andrew the Pharmacist’s excellent presentation and description of drug facts and his new venture in this town. )See page 1 for more information about this.)
The June meeting was our annual changeover dinner, where reviews of achievements and intentions were presented by President Dave, and our worthy officers agreed to meet their commitments for the forthcoming year. Marj Barnett, our Treasurer for 16 years, retired from the position, and was presented with a tribute for her service. Ross, the retired 35mm projectionist was also invited back and his enthusiasm for continuing the long-standing Dayboro cinema service was recognised.
Next talk, on Wednesday 23rd July, 7pm, Ian and Sue Flinders will present Travel adventures at low cost. Come and see and hear how you can get to those places on a shoestring. We will cover the methods of securing air, sea and land bargains, along with safety, money, health, accommodation and food. This will be backed up by illustrated examples of some exotic destinations such as Antarctica, Australia and Asia, and you will be given the secrets to many useful sources and websites. This is held at the Uniting Church room, opposite the butchers, and there is an optional meal which can be ordered on arrival on the night of a (mild) chicken curry, $12 pp
