DAYBORO SHOW 2011
This popular community event is with us again.

The country Show has, for many years, been a part of the character of most rural communities and provides new and old residents alike the opportunity to savour a unique experience in the history of rural and semi-rural living. With many new residents around Dayboro I would encourage you all to support this year’s 56th Annual Show on the weekend 8th, 9th and 10th July.  As a mark of the importance of the annual Show to the Region, Council is again providing $5,000.00 to assist the Show Society in staging the event and a further $500 to help the woodchop programme maintain its status as one of the Show’s most popular events.  I have again arranged for a Council display/information stand to be provided and I look forward to many of your dropping by for a chat over the Show weekend.

PINE RIVERS HERITAGE MUSEUM
Why not have free day out and explore our Heritage Museum on Dayboro Road Kurwongbah….set amongst the graceful landscape of Old Petrie Town, the Museum encourages visitors to explore the district’s historic character through the permanent and ever changing special displays.  Entry is free and an animated theatre provides an entertaining overview of our local area development.  Other displays include the Old Schoolroom, Yebri House, Supplying the Building Trade with stories of our explorers and early settlers adding colour and fascinating details to our tale.  Several times a year the Museum create new temporary exhibitions focused on a variety of subjects.  Give it a go!!  For more information go to our website: www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au .
SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS …will be hitting our region from 29th to 31st July and this year’s event is poised to be a true local celebration.  While it’s being held in our own backyard at Woodford, we’ve worked hard with Splendour organizers to make sure it provides an unforgettable experience for some very lucky local performers.  Council, in partnership with Splendour in the Grass, is running a competition that will see three up-and-coming bands from the Moreton Bay region play the gigs of their lives at this renowned music festival – sharing the same stage with acts such as Coldplay, Kayne West, Jane’s Addiction and The Living End.

2011-12 COUNCIL BUDGET
As Council’s Corporate Services Spokesperson I assisted the Mayor Allan Sutherland in delivering Councils 2011-12 budget at a Special Budget sitting of Council at 2pm on Tuesday 28th June.  This budget has been put together during a series of 16 workshops over the last three months. The intensity of this budget planning reflects the efforts of council and councillors to meet the increasing demands from our communities across this rapidly growing region for high standards of services and facilities.  Against this backdrop and in the face of  significant financial challenges thrown Council’s way by decisions of the State we are also very mindful of the difficulty many  ratepayers are experiencing in todays economic climate as they seem currently to be under financial pressure from many directions.
