Jjuly2014_LETTERS TO THE EDITOR 2

Dear Editor,
A VISIT FROM THE GUMNUTS
The Gumnut Caravan Club’s June rally was a visit to the delightful township of Dayboro, staying in the grassy Showgrounds area.  Members’ thanks go to the local community who helped make the visit a most enjoyable experience.

A mention should also be made of the Showground’s Caretaker (Ian) who contributed to the success of the rally by ensuring facilities and grounds were maintained at a level as good as any similar site around the State.

As always, the ladies of our group enjoyed the local shopping and many an hour was spent looking for bargains.

Our Club is one of the oldest of its type in Queensland having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and is proud of the fact that members try, whenever and wherever possible, to support local businesses.  In just the few days in Dayboro a total of $1,571.00 was spent in local shops and with service providers.

Not a bad effort when you consider that the Gumnut Caravan Club is also one of the smallest caravan clubs in the CCCQ. Our membership is capped at sixteen vans and our philosophy has always been based on friendship and companionship with few rules but plenty of good times.

The Gumnut’s also have one vacancy now that long term members (Alan and Desley) have become our first Honorary members.  Anyone interested should contact our Secretary for more information (gumnutcaravanclub@gmail.com ).

Just for your interest most Caravan Clubs in our State belong and respond to a governing body registered as the Combined Caravan Clubs of Queensland Association (CCCQ).  A total of the member Club’s expenditure during monthly rallies at various locations for last year was $568,000.  That’s a lot of spending from only 24 clubs.

So, whenever you see the Gumnut’s (or our sister Club’s) caravans in your area please continue to give us a wave or stop and say “G’day”.  We don’t need more of an excuse than that to put the kettle on.

We’ll be back next year !
President: John Stein.
