FLEMINGTON IN THE VALLEY
(SPONSORED BY THE OLD MILL VETERINARY SURGERY)
We would also like to thank our major sponsor The Old Mill Veterinary Surgery, as well as the other businesses in and around town, for their help and support – the Dayboro Butchery, the green grape, Craig Doyle Real Estate, Garage World, InPink, Ocean View Estate Winery, Bush Honey, Dayboro Pharmacy, Lasting Treasures, and the Show Society. The day began with a glass of champagne and a superb performance by the Dayboro State School Choir. This was followed by a fashion parade by INPink , then lunch, an array of Talented Singers led by Wendy Murray herself, competitions, raffles, sweeps and, of course, the race which was seen on the VERY BIG big screen TV supplied by Harvey Norman. Best formal hat of the day went to Adina Higginson and best comical hat went to Catherine Mellers who used her own serviette plus the table centrepiece to create quite an inspiring design. Well done girls!!!! The day ended just in time to pick the kids up from school. We could not have a day like this without our volunteers and although too many to name in this column you know who you are and to you we say ‘THANK YOU’.
FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS AT DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL
The 2008/9 school year will see some exciting improvements in facilities at Dayboro State School. Currently there are some really worthwhile projects underway. The covered walkway to the Prep being constructed by Q Build at the moment will greatly enhance the outdoor shade space available to both classes. It will also provide more paved areas and better access for prams and other wheeled vehicles. At the same time as the concrete is being poured in the Prep, some areas under the older school buildings are having old broken concrete renewed. Under the Schools of Tomorrow Program there will be extensive repainting externally and some internal painting before the middle of next year.

We would also like to thank the guys from the Apex Club who, as promised, have just completed work on a new path from the car park, giving wheelchair access to the school administration block. These guys give up their own time – mostly on weekends – to help out whenever needed. Not only have they put the path in for us but have also offered to help with a number of things that need doing at OSHC. They are the quiet achievers of Dayboro and all too often we forget to give them the thanks they deserve. Sooooo from everyone here at Dayboro State School we say a very BIG and very LOUD “THANK YOU”. The photos show the story.

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF THE BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATION MATRIX
On Thursday November 13 the launch for our new behaviour matrix was a great success. Many parents joined the students for the fun activities that were part of the launch. Dayboro State School has been part of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Scheme since the beginning of 2008. A team of staff members have been working with the students to come up with an agreed set of expectations, that are simply set out in the matrix. The focus of these expectations is on maintaining Safety, Respect and Learning. While sets of school rules are nothing new, this behaviour expectation matrix will be explicitly taught and modelled so that students are provided one clear message and should find it easy to make positive choices.
SCHOOL LEADER SELECTION PROCESS
Nominations for School Captain positions have closed and voting and interviews have been conducted. Congratulations to the 6 girls and 4 boys who nominated. Candidates made their speeches to Year 4 to 6 students on Monday Nov 17. These students then voted. This voting process created a short list. The short listed candidates were then interviewed by a panel comprising, the Principal, teachers and a P & C representative. The successful candidates for school captain and vice captain will be announced at the final assembly on Thursday December 11. The parent representative on the panel, Sarah Kennedy, commented on how impressed she was with the quality of the students interviewed and their commitment to Dayboro State School.
The Dayboro State School P&C Association would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Grapevine Readers a happy, healthy and safe Christmas period. We look forward to catching up with you all in 2009.
Kind Regards,
Helen Rhue, President.
