Frank Dowse 70th Birthday
Frank Dowse and his family and friends celebrated his 70th Birthday at the Ocean View Winery. His son Greg Dowse (Police) and family had flown from Melbourne to be at the party.
Frank’s other two children, Leonie (Deputy Principal at Stafford) and Peter (an IT specialist) live in Brisbane.
Frank was born in the Atherton Hospital and lived in the country district of Butcher’s Creek which is eight miles (in the old language) from the nearest town, Malanda.
He attended the local one teacher school for all of his Primary years, as did his sisters, Edith (Fogg) Ivy (Wells) and Shirley (Crane). He rode a bike to High School in Malanda. He joined the Land’s Department, worked in such places as Zamia Creek (on the Brigalow Scheme) Roma, Innisfail and Bundaberg, eventually becoming a Land Commissioner.
He moved to Mt Samson after his mother Esther Dowse died in 1983, buying the house on Foggs Farm owned by her and Shirley. His family attended the local Mt Samson State School and then High School at Mitchelton. He has maintained close links to the District through his work for the Grapevine and Doreen Spillman (Editor) and Marian Krause (Treasurer) and Rosslyn Herron and Edith Fogg from the Grapevine attended. Ivy currently lives in Nambour and she and husband Peter were able to come, but Shirley is teaching at Balgo Hills near Halls Creek in Western Australia. She was represented by son Ben Crane. Some members of the family had not seen each other for some years, so it was lovely to catch up.
We would like to thank the Ocean View Winery for the beautiful meal and the excellent service. It is a great place to have a party.
