Lions again were extremely busy during November with a variety of community initiatives including support for the Police Trivia Night, which was once again a huge success, well done to Ken, Paul, their team of helpers. Other activities supported by Dayboro Lions included the Laps for Life challenge at the pool, Dayboro Kindergarden, the Uniting Church Christmas Hampers, Dayboro Rascals, Remembrance Day Service, Pine Rivers Relay for Life.
All readers will be aware by now that the planned Hunger Games 1&2 Marathon could not proceed due to permission for a public showing being refused by the copyright holders!! We were however able, at short notice to put on a showing of “How to Train Your Dragon 2” on Saturday 15th November instead. Not exactly what we had hoped for and our Lions members were just as disappointed as many others in our community that the Hunger Games could not proceed.
There was no open dinner meeting scheduled in November as Lions Members and active supporters of Dayboro Lions take the opportunity to wind down and relax at a social bbq to be held on 30th November. An opportunity to reflect on all of the good work carried out in 2014, an opportunity to thank those who actively help and support the work we do and for members to prepare for December!!
During December, Dayboro Lions will be involved with decorating the power poles in Williams Street as well as encouraging all Williams Street businesses to take part in a Christmas lights competition. Support will be provided to the Dayboro Progress Association Swaggies Christmas and the usual provision of lollies for Santa’s pre-Christmas run through the Town, the lollies, 53kg, have been generously donated by Patsy Cains of George Hartnett Funerals. Financial support is being provided to the Conversation Group Christmas party.
Lions are again this year supporting our Dayboro State School with financial help to meet the cost of the student year book and in addition this year we will be sponsoring a new Citizenship Award. The recipients of the award (this year there will be 2 awards, 1 for Year 6 and 1 for Year 7) will be determined by the school based on their overall excellent attitude and effort, their ability to independently improve their learning and in particular, their empathy for and encouragement of others. Representatives of Dayboro Lions will attend the Senior Graduation Ceremony at the School on 10th Dec.
In January apart from the movie we have a special dinner meeting to host our Vice District Governor Elect, Rodd Chignell on Wednesday 28th, we will recommence our business and dinner meetings as usual in February 2015, please contact us at dayboro.lions@gmail.com if you would like to join our group or any of our dinner meetings.
