Dec2012_NEWS from SEATH HOLSWICH MP
First Annual Survey response.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who took the time and interest to fill out the Pine Rivers first annual survey. I received an outstanding response.
We are in the process of compiling the responses and once this is completed it will be published on my webpage: www.seathholswich.com
Roads update: Mount Mee Road reconstruction works
A section of Mount Mee Road at Ocean View which was ravaged by the January 2011 floods re-opened to two lanes in early November 2012.
This section of road had been operating as a single lane for more than 20 months and until earlier this year there was another long-term lane closure nearby.
We greatly appreciate the ongoing patience of all road users during the huge engineering task of developing and implementing a solution to the landslip damage on this part of the road. The works presented challenges in terms of location and geology.
There is still further reconstruction work to be carried out on Mount Mee Road. At a landslip site just north of Fred’s Road, a lane closure was put in place under temporary traffic signals in November 2012. It is expected that this section of road will be open to two lanes before Christmas 2012.
Work will also be undertaken on a number of other flood-damaged sites on the road. These works may require lane closures during the day and traffic control will be on site. These works are expected to continue into early 2013.

Home Buyers to Benefit from PAMDA Reforms
Pine Rivers residents will save time and money when buying or selling a property after the Newman Government announced changes to the Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act.
The Act would be split to reduce the amount of paperwork to be completed when buying items such as a house, motor vehicle or livestock.
The split fulfils one of our election commitments, incorporating the PAMDA warning statement into the contract, removing unnecessary duplication from the buying process. This will also give each industry specific legislation and regulation.
We have already scrapped the sustainability declaration, re-introduced the principal place of residence stamp duty concession and reduced the payroll tax burden for Queensland businesses.
The split will also incorporate a red tape reduction review to ensure the new laws are not only modernised, but also reduce the regulatory burden.
Draft bills will be issued in the coming weeks for public consultation at which time consumers and industry can provide their suggestions on red tape reduction measures.
Literacy and Numeracy Funds Boost For Local Schools
The Dayboro Primary School received funding under the Newman Government’s $26 million Getting the Basics Right – Literacy and Numeracy grants.
This is a major funding boost for literacy and numeracy programs that will help set Dayboro children on the right track for future learning success.
Dayboro State School will use this funding to tailor programs to the specific needs of their students and school communities and will enable the school to deliver real and improved outcomes in literacy and numeracy for all of their students.
Labour Day Holiday Moved to October
Dayboro workers will have a well-earned break in the second half of the year with the Labour Day holiday to move to the first Monday in October from 2013.
The Queen’s Birthday holiday will now be consistent with all other states and territories with the exception of Western Australia.
There were two public holidays at Easter as well as ANZAC Day and Labour Day all in a relatively short timeframe, so the change will break up the concentration of holidays in the April-May period.
The move would benefit local tourism operators that rely on the Queen’s Birthday holiday for a boost during the quieter winter months.
Also, the impact on businesses payroll expenses will be minimised as we have not added another public holiday, but simply moved the date when we observe Labour Day.
2013 Queensland Public Holidays

• Monday January 28 – Australia Day Public Holiday
• Friday March 29 – Good Friday
