COUNCILLORs COLUMN Nov09
by Cr Bob Millar
At this stage Council has not received an application, but discussions have been revolving around the transport arrangements from this quarry. The current proposal as outlined in the Queensland Government’s Narangba Key Resource Area Mapping is that trucks will access the Bruce Highway via Raynbird and New Settlement Road until such time as the long muted hardrock haulage route is constructed. It has been reported to me that there was speculation regarding the possible access to Dayboro Road may be considered. However, I can assure readers that any prospect of such an access has been dismissed.
SEALING OF CARPARK, WILLIAMS STREET
Sealing of the gravel car park behind Dayboro Cottage should now be complete as work was scheduled for late October 2009. Completion of this $50,000 project will considerably reduce dust nuisance around the Village, particularly given the current hot, dry and windy conditions being experienced.
DAYBORO SHOWGROUNDS – SAFETY
Council is improving traffic safety for visitors to the Dayboro War Memorial Grounds by installing a number of appropriately located traffic signs. As this major sport and recreation facility can become quite busy at times, drivers are requested to observe the signage and take care when manoeuvring on this private property.
HOW’S YOUR WATER
For those residents without the benefit of town water, now is a very good time to keep a close eye on your water tanks. If you haven’t already had water delivered, your tanks will most likely be getting low and as a consequence you could be caught short. Apart from the need to have adequate supplies to meet household needs, the current high to very high fire danger should be prompting us to ensure we have a good supply. Residents of the Mountain and bushfire prone areas need to be particularly vigilant as the water carriers become increasingly busy.
BLOOD DONORMOBILE BACK – HELP SAVE A LIFE
The Mobile Blood Bank is coming back to Dayboro on Wednesday 11th November and, as 2009 is the year of the blood donor, why not make a commitment to start giving blood if you don’t do so already. Up to 20,000 Australians need blood every week so please give some thought to becoming a donor and help save a life. The van will be in Williams Street near the Community Pool from 9.00am – 3.00pm. For medical enquiries or an appointment please phone 3889 7333 prior to the visit….or on the day phone 0413 153 590. New Donors are always welcome.
