Council adjusts water policy

mbrc_logo2__47x14mm_96dpi.jpgMoreton Bay Regional Council has adjusted its water policy to help ratepayers who face exceptional circumstances.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said the new policy would provide rebates to customers with an unknown water leak, a medical condition which required home haemodialysis or a poor water quality event.
He said water and wastewater charges also would be adjusted to customers experiencing incidents beyond their control or when a water meter had been interfered with or removed, or water was being obtained from an un-metered supply.
Cr Sutherland said in the case of an unknown and undetectable leak, residential and community properties could apply for a rebate of 50 per cent of the excess water consumption while 25 per cent would be applicable to non-residential properties.
The once-off rebate could be applied over a maximum of two water billing periods inclusive of the billing period in which the leak was identified and fixed.
When a customer required home haemodialysis the property would be provided with an allowance of 140 kilolitres per annum.
Cr Sutherland said the council was continually reviewing its policies in an effort to ensure they were relevant to both the needs and requirements of residents, ratepayers and council.
