CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST UPON US
By the time this edition of the Grapevine is on the streets, we will be within a few weeks of yet another Christmas and I’m sure like me, you all wonder where the past 12 months have gone. There is also no doubt that the older we get the faster they come around. It has been another year of considerable achievement for our communities right across the region and one that has no doubt brought many challenges to all of us, not the least of which has been dealing with all of the aspects of the creation of our Moreton Bay Regional Council.

The draft version of council’s Corporate Plan 2009 – 2013 will be on public display until Friday, December 12 at council libraries and customer service centres.

Families flock to John Scott Park

Samford’s John Scott Park is proving a popular picnic spot, with families flocking to the park to enjoy the upgraded facilities.
The newly revamped park, which was officially opened last month, features walkways with sleeper inlays and shelters similar to historic railway station buildings.

Council bids to highlight war sites

Moreton Bay Regional Council will apply for State Government grants to highlight significant World War 2 sites in the region.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said while some World War 2 sites had been audited and well documented, others had not.

Lake Kurwongbah fish supply grows

The 110,000 Australian Bass fingerlings released in Lake Kurwongbah earlier this year as part of a recreational fishing development program are already halfway towards reaching their full legal length for fishing.
Divisional Councillor David Dwyer (Div 7) said the fingerlings, were introduced to the lake for both recreational fishing and to control the Tilapia, a noxious pest fish in Australia, which dominate the lake’s fish stock at present.

Moreton Bay Regional Council is looking to recognise quiet achievers and unsung heroes, with its 2009 Australia Day Awards.  Members of community, sporting, environmental, church and charity groups are invited to nominate people or organisations in Moreton Bay Region by November 26, 2008.
