Feb2014_Men responding in large numbers to beyondblue TV campaign

Thousands of Aussie men have visited beyondblue’s Man Therapy website after seeing Dr Brian Ironwood during the ad breaks while they’ve been watching the cricket on TV. 
Dr Brian Ironwood is not a registered practitioner, but he takes seriously his role as the face of the Man Therapy campaign which aims to improve men’s wellbeing and reduce the much higher rates of male suicide in Australia compared to women.

Feb2014_ZONTA CLUB OF PINE RIVERS Inc.

In November, Zonta members from throughout the district walked along the Brisbane Riverfront declaring  “Zonta Says No” to violence against women, as part of a worldwide campaign for awareness and action.  At the end of the walk, this NO formation sent a strong message.
The Zonta Club of Pine Rivers has an exciting year ahead, fundraising to provide services that improve the lives and status of girls and women locally, nationally and internationally, and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Moreton Bay Eco-Alliance appeals to State and Commonwealth Governments to block Moreton Bay Regional Council’s West Petrie Bypass:
“The only hope now to stop  Moreton Bay Council from pressing ahead with this ill-conceived $100 million four lane road through a prime Koala and heritage area is for the State and Commonwealth governments to step in and assert their powers, as well as blocking funding” Mr Bell said.

In November, Pine Rivers View Club held a Melbourne Cup Day luncheon at a member’s home on a lovely sunny day.
 
Members joined in a cup sweep and a prize was presented to the best hat on the day.

Parents, grandparents, students and community members spent an inspiring day on Sunday 10th November listening to presentations from the Year 12 students of Samford Valley Steiner School.
All year the students have been working on an Independent Research Project (IRP) of their own choice in addition to their school studies.

U3A member Jean Sheehan, a member of the Needle and Thread class was encouraged to give a talk on Silk.  Jean has a great knowledge of the Indian and Thai silk industry and provided a laptop presentation and demonstration on how to fit and wear a sari – very gracefully.  Her talk was accepted enthusiastically by the other students and Class Tutor Jean Green.
