Dec2013_Residents urged to be storm ready
Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging local residents to be storm ready.
Before a storm
· Alert family, friends and neighbours of storm warnings.
· Monitor the warnings and weather radar at www.bom.gov.au/qld
· Sign up for MoretonAlert and receive free local weather warnings on your mobile : www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/moretonalert
· Stay tuned for weather updates via your battery-operated radio.
· Keep an eye on local media for latest news.
· Have a torch handy with spare batteries.
· Secure loose outdoor items – garden furniture, tables and chairs, outside toys.
· Shelter pets from the storm.
· Place your vehicle undercover and away from trees.
· Secure all doors, windows and skylights.
· Disconnect unneeded electrical appliances.
· Keep your emergency kit close by.
· Be aware of neighbours who may need assistance.
After a storm
· Listen to the radio for further updates.
· For flood or storm assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
· Check the safety and wellbeing of neighbours.
