2008 Budget lets local families down

The Budget will do nothing to meet Labor’s promises to keep grocery prices, petrol prices and home interest rates down.  Local residents should take no comfort from Labor’s decision to raise taxes on cars, alcohol, energy, computer software, fringe benefits, passenger movements, passports, visa applications and increases in the costs of private health insurance.  It confirms that Labor stands for higher taxes and this will put upward pressure on inflation.

DINGOES
Firstly, THANK YOU to all those people who rang to let me know that they too were experiencing dingo/wild dog problems.  Some of the reports I heard gave me goose bumps – an old family pet attacked whilst slowly walking behind their owner (albeit some way behind) and dogs (of reasonable size i.e. not ‘toys’) attacked on their home doorstep!!  Giving an insight into the cyclic nature of this problem is an article from a professional dogger, Andrew Donaldson – see DINGOES – WILD DOGS.

Many residents have noticed the continued and escalating clearing of koala food trees and other natives within the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.  Recently, the Department of Main Roads removed trees on Youngs Crossing Road, Joyner, regularly used by koalas and other native wildlife.  No wildlife ecologist was present and legislation designed by the EPA to protect koalas was not adhered to.

DINGOES – WILD DOGS

Here is some timely information from Andrew Donaldson.  Andrew has been providing professional dogger services to Millmerran Shire Council and within the Brisbane valley area for several years, however he lives within our local area.  His contact details appear at the end of this article.
While it may seem  like Wild Dogs are on the increase within our shire, there could be a simple reason why we are seeing more of them, waking in the middle of the night to their mournful howls (for those of us lucky enough to live on acreage), or hearing about our neighbours beloved small pets being attacked sometimes even in the middle of the day.
