Dubrovnik, Croatia

This morning we went to the airport early and said goodbye to Santorini. First we flew to Athens then we flew to our destination Dubrovnik. To get there we took a scenic route which was beautiful, because you could see the old and new Dubrovnik. I was amazed to see the walls, gates and watch towers. We got to our apartment and met the owner Zoran. Zoran, who always said ‘no problem’ and ‘super’. Had a great sleep.

We went to the old city quite early. We went through the gates and looked at all the marble streets. Everything seemed to be marble. There were a lot of ice cream shops. We walked around on the city walls and had a great view over the Adriatic sea and the lovely mountains. From our apartment we had a view over a little island called Locrum. Dad said we would go there.

We got up early for a tour about the war. We met a funny tour guide and went walking around the streets. He told us about his life in the war when he was a child and showed us bullet holes in the walls. He also showed us funny things sticking out of windows to dry clothes and fish. Mum cooked lunch back at the apartment. We then went for a fun swim where I jumped off really high rocks. That night we went to a traditional concert. It was great.

We hopped on a boat to go to Cavtat, a little peninsula. We had another fun swim. I jumped off more rocks. The water was very clear and salty. We all had a lovely walk around Cavtat and ate lunch at a place with a lot of cats and flowers.

We went back into the city to do a history tour. The tour was great and the funny thing she told us was, when the bells went off at midday all the pigeons went crazy and flew to the one square to be fed. After we watched the pigeons we went to the amazing Rector’s palace with great architecture and furniture. There were lots of columns. In the afternoon we caught a boat to the deserted Locrum Island. We had a fun swim in a little bay called the Dead Sea. It was in the middle of the island and had an underwater cave to the sea. Had a good day.

Today we got up to go to some little islands. We almost missed the boat! The Elofiti Islands were wonderful. It was peaceful on the boat and the water was nice. It was our last day and a good day. We slept in the apartment for the last time.
