Families rediscover holidays on the road

Rising interest rates and household budget strain are sending a growing number of Australian families onto the road, with families now accounting for up to a quarter of the caravan, camping and touring holiday market.
Research also shows that of all the Queensland families which have a caravan, about 42 per cent make one trip each year, 36 per cent make two trips per year and 22 per cent make three trips or more each year.
Caravanning Queensland CEO Ron Chapman said families were rediscovering the freedom, flexibility and affordability of caravanning, camping and touring holidays.

We all know of the benefits of having smoke detectors.
Do we all remember to change the batteries on our smoke detectors – every 12 months? 
Do we all remember to check that each smoke detector is working by pushing that ‘test’ button – monthly?
Do we vacuum over and around the outer casing regularly –say weekly?  Dust and debris will impede its effectiveness!

2008 Budget lets local families down

The Budget will do nothing to meet Labor’s promises to keep grocery prices, petrol prices and home interest rates down.  Local residents should take no comfort from Labor’s decision to raise taxes on cars, alcohol, energy, computer software, fringe benefits, passenger movements, passports, visa applications and increases in the costs of private health insurance.  It confirms that Labor stands for higher taxes and this will put upward pressure on inflation.
