Baha’is Form New Amalgamated Moreton Bay Regional Assembly

On April 20th, the former Baha’i communities of Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe joined to form one new larger community across the region.  This newly established organisation consists of all the members of the Baha’i Faith in the newly created Moreton Bay Regional Council area.  The change was necessary due to the recent alteration of jurisdictional boundaries by the State of Queensland.  All across Australia the Baha’i "Local Spiritual Assembly" areas coincide with the recognised local government boundaries, whether they be a municipality, shire or city.
Since the Baha’i Faith has no clergy or paid leaders, the new community is managed by an elected body of nine members, designated the "Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Moreton Bay Region".  They were chosen by confidential ballot from among the entire adult membership in the Moreton Bay area–there being no nominations or electioneering. Every Baha’i was eligible to vote for the nine Assembly members and also had an equal opportunity to be elected to serve on this institution for the coming 12 months.
Those elected to the new Spiritual Assembly of Moreton Bay Region are Dr Farahsheed Golbarani, of North Lakes; Siamak Pourmoradian, also of North Lakes; Mehrdad Rostami, Redcliffe; Richard Webster, Caboolture; Mrs Kaye Forester-Harris, Murrumba Downs; Dr Frances Chan; Scarborough; John McGregor, Kallangur; Pili Muaulu Saili, Redcliffe; and Dr Derek Bland, Eatons Hill.  This group will manage the spiritual and business affairs for the Baha’i community for the coming year, with Dr Golbarani serving as Chairperson.
Baha’is come from various racial, ethnic, and previous religious backgrounds and follow the teachings of Baha’u’llah who declared that God is one, man is one and all the religions are one.  Consequently Bahai’s also accept the Divine Messengers of the past who have founded the great world religions, including Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad.  They work hard towards inter-faith harmony and world unity. Protection of the environment, equality of gender, the harmony of science and religion, universal education and world peace are just some of the principles in which the Baha’is believe.
Anyone in Moreton Bay Region who is interested in contacting the Baha’is or attending Devotional Meetings, Study Circles or other activities for adults or children is encouraged to contact the Assembly, via Kaye Forester-Harris on 3886 1567.
