Aug2012_US comes to MEE
It’s not often Mount Mee welcomes 40 overseas visitors in one weekend, but the rainy weather did not stop the Mount Mee State School community from excitedly welcoming Student to Student Ambassadors from Washington State and New Jersey, USA.
Twenty-two families opened their homes to 36 students and 4 leaders. The program was begun by President Eisenhower back in 1956 with the aim of bringing peace through understanding and cultural exchange.
Each visitor spent 2 nights and a day with their host families and were treated to a range of activities including Laser Tag, Eumundi Markets, walks through the forest, shopping, farming, (with one student getting a little too close to the cow poo!) and lessons in how to throw the footy properly!
Saturday night was Social Night and the BBQ/disco, organised by the P & C, was a real hit. There’s nothing like good, loud music to break down the barriers!
Families and visitors alike had a wonderful weekend and learnt a little about each other’s lives. What an amazing opportunity to bring a little bit of the world to Mount Mee – we are looking forward doing it again next year.
