OUTDOOR EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AND TENNIS TABLE
By the time this edition of the Grapevine “hits the streets”, the outdoor table tennis table should be installed adjacent to the Skate Park and work will be well advanced on installation of the outdoor exercise equipment being located in Tullamore Park near the entrance road to the kindergarten. These two projects which I have mentioned previously are excellent partnerships between Council, Dayboro Lions with the Progress Association, the State Government and a private donor contributing to the exercise equipment.
PINE RIVERS PIPS DAYBORO IN PINE RIVERS CUP FINAL
In the final of the annual pre-season rugby league competition sponsored by the Council and played at Dayboro on the 28 February, the Pine Rivers team came out victors over Dayboro in what was a quality performance by both teams by 16 points to 12 after being locked up 12 all at the halftime break. In the second game, Holy Spirit/Pine Central won convincingly over Samford 16 points to 4 but the score did not reflect the standard of the game which was fairly well balanced for most of the 60 minutes.
ACTIVE KIDS PARK SESSIONS
Come along and have some fun in the Active Kids School Holiday Park Sessions. These activities have been designed to encourage children to get outside and active in their local parks. The sessions are completely free with no prior bookings required, run in a non-competitive atmosphere with a focus on fun games for everyone to enjoy. The next program dates are 7 April – 17 April 2015 with the program and more information available on https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/activekids
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY – RESULTS
More than 8,000 volunteers turned out at 115 Clean Up Australia Day sites across the Region on the first weekend in March. The efforts of these volunteers contributed to the collection of more than 60 tonnes of rubbish including 4.5 tonnes of recyclable waste from the Region’s parks, open spaces, schools, beaches, roadways and waterways. Items recovered included car tyres and batteries, mattresses, building materials, car engines and radiators, motorbike frames and chemical drums. This has been a great outcome for our environment and I would like to thank all of those volunteers and schools from the 10 groups around Division 11 who gave up their time to make a real difference. Let’s hope the rest of us can keep the place clear of litter for the rest of the year!!
NEW FLOOD INFRASTRUCTURE FOR DAYBORO
Late last month, after extensive investigation and design work, Council awarded a $777,500 tender for the construction of vital flood resiliency infrastructure between Heathwood Street and Louisa Williams Park.
Existing culverts on Heathwood Street would be upgraded with three new, precast box culverts to better mitigate flood water levels during severe wet weather events. Important infrastructure like this and the $1.2 million Williams Street Bridge previously constructed, ensures Dayboro is better equipped to handle extreme weather events. The new culverts and related works between Heathwood Street and Louisa Williams Park will increase the capacity of flood infrastructure in the area and improve flood resilience in the town centre.
This is another significant investment in our local community which whilst not totally eliminating flooding in the town centre, will do much to reduce its impact in future events.
Some preliminary construction is expected to commence shortly with the major works scheduled to start in June following Dayboro Day and, weather permitting, be completed by September.
WATCH THE DRAINS – WHERE DOES YOUR GRASS GO
When mowing and cleaning up your gardens and nature strips particularly in areas with kerb and channel, be aware that grass clippings don’t just blow away but end up in the storm water drains. This organic matter can cause blockage problems that lead to flooding and odours in neighbourhood creeks and increase the chance of weeds spreading, so please remove clippings and leaves from the road and kerb. The trick with most ride-ons is to mow in the right direction and it is not surprising that inconsiderate lawn maintenance can annoy your neighbours.
DID YOU KNOW
That during the heavy rain period brought to our Region by Tropical Cyclone Marcia, Council made available to residents a total of 800 tonnes of sand from which residents were able to fill the 46,000 sandbags provided to assist in protecting their properties from possible flooding.
