Apr2014_RUSSELL’S ANZAC DREAM TAKES FLIGHT

In early March local poet Russell Plunkett proudly launched his display in the Parliamentary Annexe of the Queensland Parliament.  The display, “The Peace Keepers – A Poetic Tribute to the Spirit of ANZAC”, created considerable interest and much favourable comment during the 2 weeks it was featured.
In Dayboro we have been fortunate to have Russell attend our ANZAC Service and treat us all to recitations of his stirring poetry over several years.  Australian Light Horseman Malcolm Stubbings, in uniform, atop his warhorse, certainly adds to this, making our local memorial service special.
Bringing the spirit of the ANZAC’s to life is what Russell Plunkett’s display does and it will certainly be a continuing asset to schools and organisations who undertake to put in an order for the wonderful presentation that he has so painstakingly prepared.  With the Government funding available for marking the centenary of World War 1, coming up in 2015, it is anticipated that interest will be high for an ANZAC display of this outstanding calibre.
