Apr2014_A LIONS TALE
There is no April movie, (Easter and ANZAC day hit the two possible weekends) but we will endeavour to show Frozen as a trial run for the 17th May movie.
MOVIES
Well, it may be the end of the end for 35mm movies. After requesting “FROZEN” back in January, “available after the end of Feb”…for the March movie, there was a problem with Disney providing the 35mm reel. They told me there are now only three main cinemas in Australia still using 35mm. There was not one available for us (a sub-cinema). Very few 35mm prints are produced now, and by mid-year I doubt they would be producing any.
Over the next few weeks we will be trialling an alternative system. The Lions have bought a large-venue digital projector, and will be testing the set-up in the hall re sound etc. If anyone wants to come onboard and become involved, share expertise etc, then please give me a call, Ian Flinders 0478 419 022, or email the Lions, dayboro.lions@gmail.com.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY was successfully held with 47 people collecting 2m3 of rubbish. The Scout Group provided the main workforce, and Lions and other volunteers pitched in.
Lions also supported the Scout Group by serving at a sausage sizzle at Bunnings. The event raised $430. It is good to help out in this way.
The annual Dayboro Directory has been delivered to 2000 addresses in the district, and we are already planning improvements for next year’s issue. Entries to the phone list are undergoing an update, especially additions and removals from the telephone listing should be phoned through to 0478 419 022, or better, emailed to the Lions. We are also looking at indexing changes and re-organising the positioning of the most useful local information it contains. Remember, this booklet is your fist call for a local supplier or tradie.
The Lions-sponsored annual Diggers’ appreciation lunch is on 26th April. We hope all returned servicemen, and their families will attend. You will need to contact Richard Hawkins see page 9 (of printed or download edition).

Our March meeting agreed on another set of generous donations to local groups and individuals.
The Dayboro Mens’ Shed is working hard, setting up to build their own shed near the Scout Den. This will serve a good number of the community, so Lions have pledged $thousands to support the venture.
The Dayboro Netball Club, (serving a different demographic!) were also given a donation, as was Max Rose, who is to represent Queensland in cycling. The QIMR Medical Research at Brisbane Hospital were given a donation towards Pancreatic Cancer research, especially in view of their recent progress in this field. Last year we lost a member (Rob) to this deadly problem.
By now, the eligible would have had their smoke alarm batteries renewed by our guys. If you missed out, then get yourself on the list for next April!
….More Next Month
