ANZAC Day
Thursday, April 25th 2013
ANZAC day is an important day of commemoration of the 1915 landing at Gallipoli, and an opportunity to pay our respects to the 100,000 Australians who have given their lives for our country. ANZAC Day is also a day to recognise those who are currently serving in overseas operations, as well as our veterans of previous conflicts.
To show your support for our troops this ANZAC Day you can send them a care package, free of charge, through Australia Post. Australia Post allows free delivery for packages weighing no more than 2kg (cubed) to our soldiers deployed overseas. If you would like any further information on the care packages and some ideas of what to include please contact my office. Alternatively, you may like to consider donating to the RSL’s Australian Forces Overseas Fund, which provide care packages to Australian troops biannually. To donate go to www.rsl.org.au .
As always, there are a number of events in the community to mark the occasion. The following services will be held in the Dayboro area on ANZAC Day:
Dayboro War Memorial Association
5.20am Dawn Service, Memorial, Roderick Cruice Park, Williams Street, Dayboro
9.30am March, McKenzie St (starting at Dayboro Hotel) and proceeding to the School
10.00am ANZAC Day Service, Memorial, Dayboro Showgrounds
Samford RSL Sub Branch
8.15am March, Station Street to Memorial Park, Samford
8.30am ANZAC Day Service, Memorial Park, Main Street, Samford

This month in Canberra
As the holidays draw to a close, I hope that everyone has had a relaxing and safe Easter break. The coming months are sure to be eventful. With a Federal Budget due to be handed down in May, speculation regarding unfunded spending promises and a massive deficit are looming. Labor has not delivered a surplus since 1989 and is still borrowing millions of dollars everyday. Add to that the fact that it is an election year and we are sure to see a number of big policy promises, such as Gonski and the NDIS, but no guarantee of where the money is coming from.
The economic mismanagement of the Rudd/Gillard Government has only lead to hard-earned taxpayers’ money being squandered and mistreated. The Coalition believes that taxpayers’ money should be treated fairly and prioritised into improving frontline services, not creating new bureaucracies.
Federal Health
As the Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing, I have witnessed first hand the mismanagement of the health system in Australia by the current Labor Government. Since 2007 they have established 12 new bureaucracies, such as Medicare Local, without improving health services for Australia.
The recent collapse of the funding agreement with state governments, which saw the Federal Government take millions from the states, including $103 million from Queensland for health services, half way through the financial year, illustrates the governments’ mismanagement and inability in the Health portfolio.
A Coalition Government is committed to stamping out bureaucracy and waste that is strangling the public health system and working with the State Governments to provide better health services and patient outcomes.
