Apr12_The Dayboro Combined Churches Committee 2012
The Dayboro Combined Churches committee has invited Pastor Richard Lance the new minister at the Uniting Church to join them in their on-going commitment to work ecumenically to meet the needs of the residents of Dayboro and surrounding district.
Pastor Richard is a boomerang resident of Dayboro and can often be seen working at the U.C.A. in town and would be happy to have a chat with the locals. His phone number is 0447 447 945.
The D.C.C.C. is represented by all five church groups, Uniting, Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran and Pentecostal. The committee has a strong focus on community welfare with the “pantry” and “casserole bank’ meeting the needs of many families and individuals who find themselves in difficult circumstances. The “pantry” relies on donations of non-perishable food items and other household products which are then packed into shopping bags for collection from the Uniting Church, or home delivered in special circumstances. (If anyone would like to contribute items they can be left at any of the churches in Dayboro). The casserole bank is a supply of ready to eat frozen family meals prepared by local cooks.
The committee organizes the “Dayboro Day” ecumenical church service which has always been well attended. These services are held in the Uniting Church as it is in the centre of town. This years’ service will have an old time Gospel song theme with Bill Turner and Rob Black leading the singing.
The churches also support national celebrations and services like Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, and the World Day of Prayer.
The D.C.C.C. support Darren Hergott in his position of Chaplain in Dayboro and Mt. Mee state schools as well as working with the Dayboro Progress Association in the Christmas Celebrations at the end of the year. Other activities of the churches in the community is in providing Christmas hampers and fundraising for our community and supporting missionary work in Africa, South America, Solomon Islands and Thailand.
You can contact a local church minister with any ideas or confidential requests for support; alternatively you can ring Chairman Chris Kent mobile 0418 182 853 or the secretary Pastor Wendy Keeble on mobile 0414 816 660.
