Apr12_GREG CHAPMAN FOR MAYOR

My name is Greg Chapman and I’m a candidate for Mayor of the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Moreton Bay is a beautiful area – second to none in Australia, let alone Queensland.
Should we as residents be forced to pay top dollar for the privilege of living here?  I don’t think so either.
I’m 51 years old and I’m a local.  I grew up in this area, went to school here and did my apprenticeship in the family business.
We have been discovered here in Moreton Bay.  People from all walks of life want to call it home.
So, when we talk about development we need to be doing all in our power as a council to ensure that the right infrastructure is put in place to ensure the community is protected everywhere.
Infrastructure means long-term planning and I want to oversee the area developed in a way that young people can afford a home of their own and businesses can go from strength to strength.
Jobs are most important and they must be protected and expanded to create opportunities for young people no matter which profession they choose.  Long-term planning and decent infrastructure can most certainly bring this about.
You, the voter and ratepayer, are an integral part of our community.
We don’t need rates going through the roof and that’s the direction they are heading again.  I often wonder why so many people in one division of Moreton Bay Regional Council want to secede to Brisbane City.
I really ask why.  Can it be they are sick and tired of living next door to neighbours who are paying a whole lot less in fees and charges?
Costs to the families of Moreton Bay Regional Council are considerably higher despite you being told the opposite.  Figures can be rubbery.  We all know that.
Would we have been better off controlling our own water supply and is it really too expensive to make the changes back?
What was that about rubbery figures?
Despite the reports coming from the present council I will most certainly be revisiting this issue as a priority.
I can assure you that if elected as Mayor I look forward to getting a much closer look at how the economy of Moreton Bay Regional Council really stands.
I will relish the challenge to make the region an inexpensive but better place for all constituents.
Yes, in Moreton Bay it’s time to make it fair everywhere.
