– URSULA WEGLEHNER
I was born in West Germany and immigrated to Australia 1981.
My father was an Architect and my grandfather a Professor in Art.
He inspired me especially with his stained church glass windows in various churches. I inherited his passion of light and shade.
Painting has been my main interest and hobby since my early childhood because of my grandfather whom I idolized. I wanted to be an Artist just like him from the age of 4. The vibrant colours and shapes of his glass windows, was probably the catalyst of my interest in art. Despite my talent and interest in painting, I was discouraged to pursue a career as an Artist.
Unfortunately I never had the luck to be taught by my grandfather as he died when I was 8 years old.
In College for Preschool Teachers in Germany I had some formal education in art, however on the whole I am self-taught.
From books I learned how to create portraits in pastel and charcoal. I was awarded a number of prizes and received many commissions for my portraits. When I wanted to learn about other mediums and subjects to paint, I found out about the workshops offered at the Redcliffe Art Society (RAS).
In 2007 I joined the RAS. In various workshops offered at RAS, I learned how to paint in Watercolours and Oils and other mediums. I never looked back. I am a full time painter now, and art is my life.
I have been awarded prizes in competitions for works I created in Drawing, Pastel, Watercolour, Mixed Media and Oil.
I can’t say which medium I like best- I guess it depends on my mood and the subject I want to paint.
An assortment of my paintings are now exhibited all year round in the Dayboro Gallery.
If you are looking for that different gift call in to the Dayboro Gallery. Open 7 days 10.00am – 3 pm.
