A trio of artists work on display at gallery
A broad range of artwork from photography to lino prints and collage will feature in a trio of art exhibitions running simultaneously at the Pine Rivers Regional Art Gallery in Strathpine from November 19 to December 19.
Mayor Alan Sutherland said the first display “Novena for Narcissus,” a series of detailed lino cut and dry point prints by Cooloola printmaker Sarah Mitchell, illustrated a poem of nine verses.
Mayor Alan Sutherland said the first display “Novena for Narcissus,” a series of detailed lino cut and dry point prints by Cooloola printmaker Sarah Mitchell, illustrated a poem of nine verses.
“Sarah Mitchell explores the divine tragedy of the human condition by imagining what would have happened if Narcissus had opened Pandora’s box,” Cr Sutherland said.
Cr Sutherland said the second display “In Response to Place,” which features collage, mixed media and installation by Venus Ganis, from Mt Glorious, was about the concept of belonging in a space in relation to our Indigenous past and present.
Venus has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in Australia and was a 2007 RADF grant recipient from the former Pine Rivers Shire Council.
Cr Sutherland said the third display “Orbit” was a series of photographs by Orla Callaghan, from Ireland, whose work captured images of the eye, the reflections on its glassy surface and the unique structures of its mysterious interior landscape.
“Orla has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions and will travel to Australia for the opening of this exhibition and to present an artist’s talk,” he said.
Cr Sutherland said Moreton Bay regional residents would have the chance to meet Orla Callaghan, Venus Ganis, and Sarah Mitchell and learn about their arts practices, at an afternoon tea on November 29, from 2pm to 3pm.
“Also a children’s lino printing workshop will be held on November 29 from 11.30am to 1pm,” he said.
Bookings are essential for both activities phone 3480 6941.
