Well our Seniors’ Morning Teas are as popular as ever with around 60 young at heart guests assembling at the Showground on Tuesday 18th March. They were treated to lots of yummy home baked goods and plenty of raffle prizes. A huge thank you to local bush poet Don Lee for entertaining us with a great range of humorous, sombre and respectful bush poems along with short, yet insightful, backgrounds of the poets who wrote them.
In conjunction with morning tea we also held our Branch Baking Competition. Many thanks to Nat Robinson for her expert judging and for providing practical and helpful reviews of the entries. Congratulations to Pam Peters, Joycelynn Herburg, Alison Taylor, Allison Hagaman, Cathy Ihm and Stephanie Sinclair who won first places and will now have the opportunity to enter their prize winning cakes and slices into Division Competition.
There is plenty to keep everyone busy during April with our Branch Photography Competition, Evening Easter Craft and Women Walk The World. The Branch Photography Competition is open to all and winning entries will go onto Division judging, with winners there going onto State level judging. Congratulations to Stephanie Sinclair who had a photograph go through to State level last year, receiving a Highly Commended. Entries must be received by Tuesday 15th April at 9.30am and will be displayed that morning in conjunction with our regular monthly meeting. Judging will take place after the Easter break. For a copy of the Photography Schedule please email stephsinc@gmail.com .
Our evening ladies will be enjoying a night in on Wednesday 16th April to work on Easter Crafts. Newcomers are always welcome to join us at the CWA Hall at 7pm. Materials will be supplied, just bring a few dollars to help cover costs and enjoy a light supper and great company. Enquiries to Stephanie on 0439 799 078 or stephsinc@gmail.com .
Women Walk The World is being held on Tuesday 29th April. All are welcome to join us at the CWA Hall in Dayboro for morning tea at 10am (gold coin donation) as we take a ‘virtual walk’ around the world through our countries of study over the last few years. Similar events will be held round the country and the world as women walk together in support and solidarity. Women Walk The World is an initiative of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW). They work to connect women worldwide, supporting rural women and their families through education, training and community development programs. They also give women a voice at international level through links with UN agencies. Enquiries to Pam on 3425 2786.

Recipe of the month:
This months recipe has been taken from The Queensland Country Women’s Association Cookery Book. This updated edition contains a great number of practical, simple recipes suitable for everyday cookery, but has also retained recipes, tips and advertisements from the original 1959 Lady Lavarack Cookery Book. It is wonderful to read through recipes of a bygone era where little was wasted. Few books today would have recipes for brain, tongue, goose or pigeon! At only $12.95 this book would make a wonderful Mothers Day Gift and is available from our local branch.
Ginger Nuts
Ingredients:
3 cups plain flour
2 tablespoons ground ginger
¼ teaspoon bi-carb soda
1 cup sugar
½ cup butter, softened
4 tablespoons golden syrup
Method: Sift flour, ginger and bi-carb soda into a bowl, add sugar. Rub in softened butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add golden syrup and work to a stiff paste. Roll small pieces of dough into balls and place on greased/lined baking tray. Press each lightly with a fork to flatten slightly. Bake in moderate oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
