DTC Annual Wimbledon Cup Challenge 2013
Blue skies, colourful costumes, gourmet burgers, strawberries and cream, delicious cakes, great coffee, beer/wine, slurpies, Jumping castle, rocking music, speed serves, mini tennis, fast and furious tennis and lots of laughs……what more could you want??
2013 saw 27 teams of varying abilities and configurations enter the Dayboro Tennis Clubs Annual Wimbledon Cup Challenge. There was a good mix of both local teams and ‘Outsiders”. Teams came from Brisbane, Strathpine, Northlakes, Clayfield and Samford. A big thank-you to everyone who entered making for a great community event. As always there are quite a number of thank yous.
Firstly we would like to thank everyone who participated and came along, our sponsors, Ray White, Stephen Undrey from Tennis Queensland for his continual support and organisation, Greg Smith, our local tennis coach, from Matchpoint Tennis and Lazer Zone Strathpine who donated over $400.00 worth of prizes. Special mention must also go to the Businesses and services who entered, or sponsored a team to play:
Aurecon group
Dayboro Café
Dayboro State school
Natura Dog Food
Neuro Foundation (Sponsorship)
Sergio Gonzalez Podiatry (Sponsorship)
It is a great way to promote your local business/club by participating in a community event. In 2014 we hope to see participation by more local businesses, nothing like a bit of local rivalry. A big thank-you also to the local businesses unable to register a team but gave their support through donation of various goods and Services we could raffle to raise much needed funds for our club to keep the doors open. DTC really appreciates your generosity.
Terahs Restaurant
Wounded Bull
Matchpoint Tennis
Michelle Symonds, Jean Rose, Donna Keightly and Alura our local cake makers
John and Linda Zanolini, our strawberry suppliers.
Did you hear the music?? Anthony Polson and his Rock Band from Dayboro Music provided top class entertainment. His generosity dedication and patience all added up to create great sound and atmosphere.
There were a number of other community organisations and people who also helped on the day with equipment. We are certainly blessed to live in such a community. Thank you to
Dayboro Apex/Lions for the loan of eskies, tables BBQ’s and Marquees
Dayboro Scouts for the loan of tables and chairs and Nathan O’Boyle for carting these
Dayboro Footy Club for donating the ice.
We must also mention Ark Active Wear for the fantastic Banner, yet another local Business. Did you see it???
Now to a very very Big thank you………………..When the DTC’s shoulders were heavy with the quote given to repair the fences, Saint Glen Lake, or is he simply a super hero arrived with his machinery to shape everything up in a jiffy. Thanks Glen. Yet another great example of Dayboro Community Spirit.
The DTC committee essentially consists of 5 people and their families. We would like to thank our Mums and Dads, Sisters and Brothers, Cousins and Children who all worked tirelessly on the Day. We must single out Angela Stanton who gave her all and steered the committee with vigour, enthusiasm and the occasional bribe of wine.
Now Down to Business.
For those who couldn’t make it, you missed some very entertaining tennis! Yes there were some ‘grunters’, some ‘lollypoppers’, some great ‘hit n giggle’, spectacular ‘rally’s’, a sensational ‘ACE by Roddick’. This year we also had "mumbles like Andy" whilst others "behaved like McEnroe". Terry (the tennis ball) made a brief appearance, this year showing more dance skills than his tennis prowess.
Outsiders took out the 2013 cup……………..Come on Dayboro , start practicing for next year. We need to bring it back in 2014.

We would like to apologise to families and children who showed for the hot shots tennis. Unfortunately, due to the huge influx of late entries on the day, we were unable to run the short program for the kids. Last minute entries took some time to rearrange the tennis draw, final tally of 27 teams entered.
Thank you so much to all our wonderful community all who helped to make the Dayboro Tennis Club Wimbledon Challenge another successful event. Thank you to all who entered a team and played. Just by entering a team helped to make our day a great success, and provided some fabulous entertainment for our spectators.
OK get Practicing for2014 lets bring the cup Back!!!!!
