Sept2012_A LIONS TALE

Dayboro Lions are back in action, after a recess to allow for the travels away of the adventurous members.  This is mostly a concern when it comes to the movies.
lions_logo.jpgWe are currently below a critical mass of reserves to run movies when several key team members are away.  Apart from the 30 voluntary hours or so it takes in logistic preparation to put on the cinema evening, we need about eight volunteer Lions as helpers to run the event between 5:00pm and 10:00pm, to have allocated tasks including setting up, serving etc.  It costs $600+ to run a movie night, and there is potential for financial loss or even worse, problems on the evening due to understaffing.  We would like to appeal for more community-minded Dayboro souls to become involved with this rich and delightful community, and to join Lions as members, or even become totally reliable ‘friends of Lions’ to commit to helping under these circumstances.  Is this you?
MOVIE:  The next scheduled movie is the lively animated:
“ICE AGE 4” on 15th September
i.e. on the third Saturday of the month as per usual. Doors open at 6:30, and the movie starts at 7pm.  Hopefully it will be a warmer evening, as spring approaches.
LIONS MEETINGS are held on:
The first Wednesday of the month, with an agenda of business items;                            and
On the third Wednesday of each month, where an open-to-all dinner meeting is held, with a speaker of some interest, and none or little business conducted.
August saw a business meeting agreeing financial sponsorship of a local star – Hayden, an up and coming Dayboro lad who was off to Melbourne to represent Queensland at Volleyball.  In return, he helped with the movies.
Dayboro Lions have now been serving the community for 30 years, and are holding our celebration and review of this, coupled with our ‘Changeover dinner’ on Saturday 8th September.  We expect a reasonable attendance of current and past Lions from the area to help us celebrate.  Read the report on this in next month’s Grapevine.
