Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland hailed the final support breakfast for 2010 a major success raising more than $29,000.
“The ongoing support and generosity from all facets of our community has been overwhelming,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“Australian swimming legend, Duncan Armstrong inspired and entertained the audience with insights into his career and provided some great motivation advice before the popular auction got underway.
“The fantastic line-up of auction items, generously donated by local businesses, helped to push us to a new record with hot items going under the hammer including a holiday at Fairways Golf and Beach Retreat, V8 Supercar memorabilia signed by Craig Lowndes and an Australian One Day Cricket Series shirt signed by Brett Lee himself.
“Thanks to everyone involved we’ve managed to raise more than $81,000 for 2010, which is a fantastic result for school chaplains in the Moreton Bay region.
“The money raised will not only help continue the valued work our school chaplains do, but will help this service to grow and reach more children in more schools across our region.
“I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported this year’s efforts, whether you were in the audience, donated items or prepared the breakfasts – without your help it wouldn’t have been possible.
“It’s a worthy cause, and I’m hopeful that we can build on this and raise the bar that little bit higher next year.”
