Oct2010 ROCKING THE MOUNTAIN SOME MORE
The Mt Mee Hall Committee has buckled to heavy pressure and is running another Rock and Roll Night.
So on Saturday night, 23rd October – (to misquote the late great Fats Waller), “The joint will indeed be rocking”.
Music for the last R&R was provided by Greg Henderson’s “Stone Lane”, and Greg, our quiet Woodford butcher, amazed with his forceful bass guitar work in that very tight little ensemble.
On the premise that change is good for the inner man, music this time will be by “The Lights On The Hill”. This too is a group of five local musos and they are equally at home playing traditional R&R , Country or Pop.
On the big night, we will be hearing happy, good-time music straight from the era of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, the Everley Brothers, Dion de Muchi, Chubby Checker, Neil Diamond and of course Elvis and the Beatles.
The band comprises the acclaimed Bill Payne on lead guitar, the imperturbable Shane Bleakely on rhythm guitar and vocals, the indefatigable Peter Bigg on bass guitar and the rock solid Bill Turner on drums. Bill is not amused by drummer jokes! The mercurial Norm Smith is on keyboard, synthesiser and vocals and impresario extraordinaire Graham “Bopper” Curtis does ‘special’ vocals.
The arrangements include a fully licensed bar with a good wine list and a hot supper – to be served to the tables at about 9.30pm. So the idea is to get up a party and to book a table. There will be loads of room for dancing and the Hall floor is in top condition.
The doors open from 6.30pm, the bar opens at 7pm and the band will be playing from 7.30 pm until late.
Bookings are already solid and numbers will be restricted for everyone’s comfort. Book with Kay (5498 2104) or Neil and Deb (5498 2148). Admission – (inclusive, other than bar), is $20.00.
C’mon – have a night out!
