BROCHURE LAUNCHED June09

allan_sutherland_212x250px_200dpi_clr.jpgThe Dayboro District Historical Society has prepared a brochure entitled Dayboro “The Town of Yesteryear” Historical Town Walk.  This was officially launched at a special function at “Dayboro Cottage” with 50 members and guests present, on Monday 11th May 2009, by Cr. Allan Sutherland, Mayor of Moreton Bay Regional Council.
guests_250x195px_200dpi_clr.jpgOther speakers on this occasion included Cr for Div 11, Bob Millar;  Society President, Carmel Bond;  Local Studies Historian, Leith Barter; and members, Glenys Williams, Karen Karrup and Rhylle Winn recited poetry.  Rhylle’s poem was written by him for this occasion whilst Glenys’ and Karen’s were of historic origins – Karen’s by an ancestor.  Billy Freeman sang – a trouper!  Undeterred by the technical hitches he encountered.
The brochure features 18 of the older buildings in the town, together with a photograph and a short history, which will enable people to do a self-guided walk.
Special thanks go to our major sponsor, Craig Doyle Real Estate, and to our other sponsors – Hay Cottage Arts & Crafts, Dayboro Community Art Gallery, ECU Australia, Susanne Allcock, Crown Hotel and Dayboro Butchery.
Thanks also to the support received from Dayboro District Progress Assn. Inc.
Copies of the brochure are available from all of these sponsors, so why not pick up a copy, do the walk and learn about the buildings in Dayboro.
The brochure has also been sent to the libraries, museums, historical societies and information centres throughout Moreton Bay Regional Council area.
brochure_132x300px_150dpi.jpgThe publication of this brochure is just the first stage in recording the history of the buildings in Dayboro.  At some stage in the future it is hoped that historical plaques will be placed on buildings and other sites of interest.
