Your Part For Emission Reduction

I have heard a lot of talk in the media lately about emission trading proposals. It seems to me, that to some degree at least, as long as companies are prepared to pay the cost they can continue to produce unadjusted levels of pollution. Planting a tree should not  make it OK.
Something that can be done with almost no effort is to buy anything you need locally-whether it be manufactured goods(where possible) or even easier, food. Buying fruit and veges that are in season in the local area reduces greatly the amount of fossil fuel used to get it to the market. Using mainly in- season fruit also reduces the amount of  electricity used to refrigerate fruit for months on end in order to satisfy the demand for example, for apples all year round.
Growing some of your own food can reduce fossil fuel use and therefore pollution on something you would have had to buy from a retailer:

– pollution produced on the farm by tractors and chemical runoff
– pollution from transport to markets
– pollution from transport to warehouses
– pollution from transport to shops and finally to home.
What’s more food grown and then eaten fresh can’t be beaten on taste.
