Catchment Management Activities Feb09
Happy New Year to all of you around the Pine Rivers Catchment. The outlook for 2009 is looking very positive with further funding sources now open for applications. As some of you will be aware the Pine Rivers Catchment Association (PRCA) has assisted landholders through our Catchment Management Incentive Scheme to install fencing and watering points, to control weeds and to revegetate areas along waterways in the upper catchment areas.
Over the past few years a lot of this activity has occurred along Laceys Creek, the Upper North and South Pine Rivers, Cedar Creek and Dawson Creek.
One of our ongoing projects is the control of Cats Claw Creeper. This is a weed which can smother and remove the native plant canopy reducing stream health. Cats Claw Creeper requires ongoing work during the flowering months so each year PRCA carries out chemical control of the vines – we are slowly winning the war (see photos).

BEFORE:
PRCA is also working with landholders to establish a bug that selectively feeds off Cats Claw Creeper. Together with chemical control we hope to get on top of the weed. Do you have Cats Claw Creeper on your property? Contact PRCA for assistance.
With the opening of the Caring for our Country grants (www.nrm.gov.au ) PRCA hopes to be successful in accessing funding for 2009/2010 to make further funding available to landholders who wish to undertake Catchment Management activities.
Do you have a waterway on your property that you would like to improve?
If you do, or you would like further information, please contact Melanie Brennan, Catchment Coordinator, on 07 3325 1577 or email pinerivers@bigpond.com
