$200 Million boost for pensioners
More than 770,000 Australian part-pensioners and allowance recipients will be given a $200 million boost to their payments with the lowering of the social security deeming rates from 20 March.
The lower deeming rate will decrease from 2 per cent to 1.75 per cent for financial investments up to $48,000 for single pensioners and allowees, $79,600 for pensioner couples and $39,800 for each member of an allowee couple. The upper deeming rate will decrease from 3.5 per cent to 3.25 per cent for balances over these amounts.
The changes mean that part-pensioners will receive an average increase in payments of $83.20 a year. This is in addition to the indexation increase to come into effect on the 20th of March.
The Abbott Government understands the cost of living pressures facing pensioners, and we have a plan to support pensioners in these challenging economic times.
Local Resident Local Hero
Camp Mountain resident and 2012 Dickson Citizen of the Year Juliette Wright has been named Australia’s Local Hero for 2015.
Juliette in 2009 founded the online charity portal GIVIT, which connects those who have with those in need. The portal maximises the impact of charitable donations by targeting donated goods to the disadvantaged members of our community who need them most. More than 120,000 goods have been donated through the service since 2009.
We should be proud to call Juliette a member of our local Dickson Community.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Local schools, including Dayboro State School, will soon be taking part in the fifth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. The day of action will be held on Friday the 20th of March.
Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It has no place in schools, and no place in our community.
The day is an opportunity for the whole school community to ‘take a stand together’ against bullying and violence.
