COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM
The Moreton Bay Region Community Grants Program offers financial support to eligible individuals, sporting and community groups within the Moreton Bay Region in the following categories: Community Capacity Building and Development, Community Facilities Development, Interest Free Loans for Community Facilities, Community Events and also for Individual Achievement. Applications for the next round of grants opened on 1 February and will close on 31 March.  Application forms and guidelines are available on council’s website.
ANIMAL CONTROL
Council officers are continually dealing with complaints relating to animals.  Often the nuisance of dogs barking or roaming outside their own property is caused by inadequate management by the animal’s owners or a lack of understanding of a dogs actions during the owner’s absence from the premises.  Pets are little different to children and require much more attention than people often think when they acquire the “little ball of fluff”.  Council has local laws that deal with the issues of animal control along with restrictions on certain animals and it is important that animal owners understand these laws and the need for responsible ownership. This includes giving appropriate consideration to those who live around them and who may be affected by their animal’s behaviour. Information is available on councils website.]
RECLAIM YOUR WEEKEND WITH SPORT AND ADVENTURE
Over the next few months Council is again conducting a programme of sport and adventure activities for residents aged 18 and over.  The programme aims to provide participants with the opportunity to develop skills, build confidence and form new friendships whilst enjoying the Moreton Bay Region and surrounds.  A wide range of activities are available from abseiling the Glasshouse Mountains to Archery, Photography, learning to sail and playing croquet.  Some of these activities may be sold out but check for details and booking arrangements by calling 5433 2052 or at website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/adventure
WHICH ROAD BELONGS TO WHO
From time to time residents raise matters with Council staff that revolve around who has responsibility for the various roads within the Region.  In our local area, Mt Mee Road and Dayboro Road are State controlled roads under the management of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.  Maintenance of these roads is the responsibility of this department, although Council is contracted to arrange roadside mowing.  These roadside mowing arrangements are currently of concern to Council as the Department subscribes to a lower standard of maintenance than Council delivers to residents with obvious financial impacts.  Council undertakes construction and maintenance of other designated roads but does not formally undertake maintenance on the many kilometres of unconstructed road that still exists in the Region.
DID YOU KNOW
That during the recent rain period around TC Marcia, more than 100 road closures occurred due to flooding across the 2,037 sq kms of the Moreton Bay Region and in many cases isolated residents for several days.  Along with bushfires, storms and droughts, floods and their consequences are something this country has been experiencing since the beginning of time.
