Council has delivered tens of millions of dollars in sporting infrastructure, community facilities, social programmes and arts and youth activities over the last 12 months and continued a high level of engagement with the community on many issues through a number of different avenues.  Whilst Council, like all levels of Government and many in the community, is facing very difficult financial pressures, we remain in good shape to maintain the services and facilities to take our 410,000 residents into the future.
IT’S PINE RIVERS CUP TIME AGAIN
The keenly contested, four round, annual Pine Rivers Cup pre-season rugby league competition kicks off its 23rd year on Saturday 7th February.  The first games will be hosted by the Pine Rivers Club at Mundin Street, Petrie, commencing at 6.00pm, with the following round being at the Samford Stags home ground in the Village.  The finals will be played on 28th February, hosted by the Dayboro Cowboys.  Council is again pleased to be supporting this competition with $1,500 in sponsorship.  The Pine Rivers Cup competition over the years has built a strong following and provides spectators with a great evening’s sporting entertainment, so please support your local club.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY – 1st March
Moreton Bay Regional Council is proud to support Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 1st March…..so now is the time for interested groups to start registering.  To help make a difference to your environment in 2015, register your Clean Up Australia Day site on the Clean Up Australia Day website:  www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au  There are a number of groups across my Division from Scouts, Guides, Service Clubs, Neighbourhood Watch Groups and others who coordinate collection in their local areas.

TENNIS BUILDING REACHES COMPLETION
In September, I brought you the exciting news that Council had let a tender for the construction of a new tennis clubhouse to replace the old flood prone block construction building that had served the community for many decades. With the resurgence of local interest in tennis, I have been pleased to champion planning of this new facility and secure the $358,129 required to undertake the project, which reached practical completion just prior to Christmas.  It was also pleasing to see some local contractors involved in its construction and I now look forward to the formal opening of the building, which is being organized by Council’s events officers in conjunction with the tennis club members.
NEW FOOTY FIELD IRRIGATION
Shortly before the Christmas holidays, Council contractors completed the installation of new underground irrigation at the Dayboro Junior Rugby League Field.  Apart from improving the reliability of the irrigation system and reducing the chances of the system leaks that have been experienced in the past, the system will also involve the remote management and control of moisture monitoring and operation.
DID YOU KNOW?
That increasing numbers of residents are engaging with Council through the many technology channels that are now widespread in our community and that more than 30% of people accessing council’s website in the last quarter of 2014 have been doing so via mobile devices. i.e. iPhones, tablets, etc.)  During the quarter, councils website was accessed on more than 285,000 different users.
