Vigilance helps keep mozzies at bay
Recent rain is likely to bring mosquitoes in coming weeks, and Moreton Bay Regional Council is asking residents to help it keep the number of insects down.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said council had already carried out a number of aerial treatments across the region to reduce the number of mosquitoes and it was now concentrating on carrying out groundwork.

“But residents can help us fight mozzies, by making sure there’s no stagnant water lying around their back gardens,” he said.
“By emptying pots, buckets and removing water lying around in your back yard you’ll be reducing the places where mosquitoes breed.”
The recent heavy rainfalls and high tides are providing the ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
Residents are advised that to reduce the likelihood of being bitten, they should use appropriate insect repellants, wear long sleeved clothing and long trousers and limit the amount of their activity outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most prevalent.
