To India with Love

Steve and Julie Elliott are a Dayboro couple heading to India next year to begin a Children’s Home for orphans who have been abandoned. They depart for Chennai in January, with their two young children Josiah and Rose, to begin the process of establishing and registering ‘The Hope House’, and training local social workers in early childhood. As teachers who have travelled extensively to Asia, Steve and Julie have always had a heart for children, and wanted to create a loving Home that models a Father + Mother relationship.
According to recent UNICEF figures, there are approximately 132 million children around the world who have lost one or both parents. To compound the tragedy, some of these vulnerable children can become victims of trafficking, abuse and exploitation. Steve and Julie’s desire is to make a difference in the lives of abandoned children by providing them with a loving home and affording them a quality education.
‘The Hope House’ is a venture of Dayboro Church, where the Elliott’s have been attending since it began in 2013 under Pastor Gary Levens. A website has been set up to keep in touch with those back in Australia, and gives advice on how to be involved: www.thehopehouse.org.au
As a family, they have committed to living in India in 2016 in order to pioneer the project, train teachers and social workers, and aid in its transition to a locally run and sustainable outreach to the community. The Elliott’s are establishing ‘The Hope House’ in partnership with a recognised NGO in India, who will see to the day-to-day care of the children and their ongoing education.
