Sun’s Up – Fees Down

Moreton Bay Regional Council has reduced its plumbing fees for work on solar or heat pump systems eligible for government rebates.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said charges for minor regulated work relating to the installation of the systems had been reduced from $155 to $61 in support of the Queensland and Australian government bids to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“It is estimated that energy savings of up to 25 per cent will be achieved by households that replace an electric hot water system with a solar or heat pump system,” Cr Sutherland said.
“By charging less than half the previous standard fee, we think it will encourage more people to take steps to reduce their household energy consumption.”
Cr Sutherland said the reduced fee applied from September 1.
The State Government estimates about 150,000 solar or heat pump systems will be installed in southeast Queensland over the next three years.
