I’ve just married the chief of staff of a Very Important Politician at Lee and Lynette Henzell’s chapel (most gorgeous location).  You should consider it for your wedding or baptisms or – many many years away I pray – funeral: 3425 1246).  The couple chose a reading from Colossians 3, “Forgive one another as the Lord forgave you”.
To really forgive, you have to forget.  Another reading favoured at weddings is 1 Corinthians 13, “Love keeps no record of wrong”.  That seems to me to be the key to any loving relationship.  The government doesn’t love you, that’s why they want to keep your phone and internet records.  Governments are impersonal constructs which don’t need to love you, although it would be nice if politicians of any stripe did genuinely love the folk who give them their jobs.  But lovers, whether couples or communities, shouldn’t have a data retention policy.  Been hurt by someone you love?  It’s not easy advice, I really do know, but “Forget it”.
Pastor Richard Lance, 0447 447 945.
