Sept2014_2014 RIO TINTO RIDE TO CONQUOR CANCER

By Sandi Smith.
On the 16th and 17th of August, I and 1123 other cyclists braved the rain and rode 200 kms to raise awareness and money for cancer research.

Together we raised $3.8 million.  QIMR organize this ride every year and every rider has to raise $2500 to be eligible to ride.  I raised $2910.00, a commitment in itself, then to face the constant rain made it more of a challenge, camping out Saturday night and then luckily the rain subsided while we rode home.  The ride left UQ St Lucia and headed for Wivenhoe Dam and returning on Sunday.
We may have been tired, weary and aching but we came home smiling, knowing what we had achieved and raised money to help cancer research.
This ride is so well organized and I thank all the volunteers and organizers who make this weekend possible, for doing the best they possibly could in the bad conditions.
Thank you to everyone who donated and supported me to make this happen as I’ve only been cycling for 6 months and YES I have registered to do it again next year.
